North vs south for a long stay
The south is the safer choice if you want to sit outside every day. The north is greener and more local, and a sunny day in the south is only a bus ride away. Many long-stayers in Puerto de la Cruz accept a few grey days in return for lower rents.
Snow on Teide
January is one of the likeliest months to see snow on Mount Teide. The coast stays mild, but if you plan to visit the national park, check road conditions first.
What to pack
- Light clothes for the day.
- A warm jumper or fleece for evenings.
- A light rain jacket if you are in the north.
- Long trousers and closed shoes for walks in the hills.
- Sun cream: the sun is strong even in January.
