Lanzarote in winter is mostly dry and bright, with daytime highs of about 21°C, few rainy days and frequent breezes. Wind is the factor that decides how warm it feels, so choosing a sheltered beach makes all the difference.

Wind
Lanzarote is low and flat compared with Tenerife and Gran Canaria, so the trade winds blow across it more freely. On many winter days you will feel a fresh breeze, especially on the north and east coasts such as Famara and Costa Teguise.
Beach days
The most sheltered beaches are in Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca, and the Papagayo coves near Playa Blanca. On windy days, they can feel several degrees warmer than exposed beaches.
Rain
Rain is rare, but when it comes it can be heavy for a few hours. Most winter weeks are completely dry.
What to pack
- A windproof jacket.
- Layers for evenings.
- Sunglasses and sun cream: the light is bright.
Our verdict
