Fuerteventura is the windiest of the main Canary Islands. In winter the trade winds often blow at a steady fresh breeze for days, which is great for surfers and kitesurfers and less pleasant on exposed beaches. Temperatures are mild, about 21°C by day, and rain is rare.

How windy does it get?
Wind varies by day and by coast. The north and west coasts and the big beaches of the south-east are the most exposed. Caleta de Fuste, Corralejo town and the hotel areas with windbreaks are more comfortable. A few calm days happen every month, often when calima arrives.

Our verdict
If wind bothers you, choose Caleta de Fuste or consider another island. If you love the outdoors, Fuerteventura’s winter is excellent. More in the Fuerteventura guide.
